The use of PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) is a "cutting edge" technology for treating of facial rejuvenation.
The process involves drawing blood from the patient and spinning the drawn blood in a centrifuge. This process separates the different components in blood and concentrates the natural growth factors (6-8x that of whole blood). The concentrated growth factors are then injected into areas of skin affected by aging, acne scarring, sun exposure, trauma/ scar formation, and other causes of skin damage.
PRF treatment improves skin texture & tone, stimulating collagen production, thereby improving crow's feet, lowering eyelid coloration, laxity & hollowing, forehead wrinkling, and eyebrow furrows. In addition, PRF is used to heal facial scarring, fill in smoker's lines in lips, provide volume and fullness to lips, soften wrinkles around the mouth, increase fullness to cheeks, improve jawline and chin definition, and is used as a treatment for hair regrowth in men and women. PRF is used in conjunction with a procedure called "microneedling" that infuses the soft tissue with regenerative growth factors that energize the repair and rejuvenation of damaged tissues.
PRF is 100% safe and natural; there are no added chemicals or components. In wounds, PRF reduces discomfort, speeds up healing response, decreases infections, and minimizes recovery time.
The procedures are minimally invasive lasting approximately 15-30 minutes, with typical post-op “down time” being less than 24 hours. Most cases are performed under local/topical anesthesia only. *Note: IV sedation/ general anesthesia are also available upon patient request.
Dr. Duncan began using PRF in 2016 to promote wound healing associated with 3rd molar removal, tooth extraction/ implant surgery, bone grafting/ reconstructive procedures, and scar revisions. Dr. Duncan continues to expand the use of PRF within his maxillofacial and oral surgery practice.
